I have more than 20 years of experience conducting research for national, state, regional, tribal, and local research partners. My work with the Social Research Laboratory began in 1992. Since that time, I have served as principal investigator for more than 200 applied research projects including public opinion surveys, issue analyses, program evaluations, and community needs assessments. Most of the applied research I conduct falls under the policy areas of health-related research, criminal justice, environment, and politics.
Recent project clients include the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service. In Arizona I have conducted research for the Arizona Supreme Court, the Arizona Department of Health Services, Arizona Department of Commerce, Arizona Department of Education, and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. I have worked with the Navajo and Hopi nations, as well as a myriad of County and City agencies and non-profit organizations. I am the founding director of the Grand Canyon State Poll, a biannual, public affairs, telephone survey of Arizona residents.
As principal investigator of applied research projects, my responsibilities include legal responsibility for project progress and completion, overall management of the research, and intellectual guidance to all facets of the work. I am directly involved with the design of all data collection instruments and protocols, sample design, data collection procedures, preparation of the final dataset, conducting data analysis, authoring the report, and preparation of all deliverables.
I am an active member of the American Political Science Association, American Association for Public Opinion Research, National Network of State Polls, and Academic Survey Research Organizations.
I am a Professor of Political Science at Northern Arizona University and Director of the Social Research Laboratory. I have a Ph.D. in Political Science from Rutgers University and I have published in the areas of American politics, political participation, elections, public opinion, social movements, and Internet democracy.
